BACKGROUND:
The US12/Michigan Avenue sewer has been, for some time, been identified as requiring both maintenance and upgrades. The sewer has significant issues, including varying capacity levels, that have resulted in failures over the past few years that have resulted in costly repairs by the Township.
Given the scope of the project, it requires the Township to approach its upgrade and maintenance in a thoughtful and deliberative manner. To that end, the first step is to hire a consultant to complete the engineering and design for the proposed project. The Township will use this design to submit for grant funding from the State's Revolving Fund (SRF). This fund makes monies available for local municipalities for projects such as the US12/Michigan Ave sewer replacement/rehabilitation project.
Proposals from consultants to complete the initial engineering and design work were received the week of April 13th; the finalist will be selected over the next few weeks for a cost not to exceed $40,000. The deadline for application for the SRF is August 1, 2020.
