FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Authorize the Supervisor and Clerk to enter into a service contract with Cardno, Inc. for invasive species control within township parks for a cost not to exceed $62,645, subject to Township Attorney approval

BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:

Authorize the Supervisor and Clerk to enter into a service contract with Cardno, Inc. for invasive species control within township parks for a cost not to exceed $62,645, subject to Township Attorney approval.

BACKGROUND:

In February of 2019 we conducted an Invasive Species Inventory and Management Plan. The overarching purpose of this plan was to assist the Parks and Recreation Department in developing recommendations and priorities for invasive species management in each of the parks across the township’s park system. Part of this plan also included a proposed schedule and budget. During the 2020 budget process, the Park Commission voted to budget $70,000 to begin the recommended schedule. The sites included in this bid are Hickory Woods Park, Pittsfield Preserve, Marshview Meadows Park, Prairie Park, and Lillie Park.  An Invitation to Bid was sent out and we received bids from four commercially certified pesticide applicators who have the proper equipment to apply these treatments in the most efficient method. The bid tabulation is attached.

Bids were received from four companies, Arbor Master Tree Service, Inc, Cardno, Inc, Natural Community Services, LLC, and PlantWise, LLC. PlantWise, LLC chose not to submit a price on the Pittsfield Preserve parcel. The low unit prices varied between contractors, so we compiled a total cost comparison; allowing us to compare the bids equally. It is included on the bid tabulation.

The Park Commission, at their March 24, 2020 regular meeting recommended approval of Cardno, Inc to perform the services and for the item designated to be paid from the Park Millage Fund.
