BACKGROUND:
Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is installing a traffic signal at Ellsworth and Oak Valley. At its March 9, 2022 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an expenditure of $148,810 to upgrade the signal infrastructure to be consistent with others by installing mast arms as opposed to the standard wire span suspended from wood poles offered by the WCRC. Since 2012, the Township has upgraded six traffic light installations from standard wire spans to mast arm installations with cost ranging in price from $68,000 to $153,000.
Last month, WCRC received bids for the Mast Arm infrastructure on Ellsworth and Oak Valley, which came in with a total cost to
the Township of $203,000 rather than the estimated $148,810. This is an increase of $54,190 from the amount approved by the Board in March. As such, we would like to obtain approval for the additional expenditure of $54,190 which is budgeted for in the FY2023 Municipal Services budget.
