BACKGROUND:
Textile Road Booster station is the largest drinking water booster station currently in Pittsfield Charter Township. It is responsible to elevate water pressure to over fifty percent of the township's drinking water customers, and delivers the necessary pressures and reserve storage to maintain a high level of fire protection.
Constructed in 2004, Textile Road Booster Station is the single most important drinking water station the township has. It can supply pressures to all three pressure districts if needed in an emergency situation. Textile Road booster station has six 1300 gallons per minute pumps and a five million gallon storage tank.
Pump 3 and pump 6 began to experience a bearing noise and we removed from service preventing any further damage to the pumps. The station is able to maintain normal operating pressure with the remain 4 pumps in service. Repairs are necessary to return the station to the full firm capacity and normal operating sequence. Pumps are proposed to be rebuilt by Kennedy Industries. New pumps we considered in the review. Factors such as long lead times on delivery and a price tag of $45,000 per pump factored to the decision to rebuild the pumps. Rebuilt pumps have all new critical components. Capacities are returned to new status.
