WHEREAS, the Pittsfield Charter Township Arts and Culture Excellence In Pittsfield Committee (“Committee”) was established by resolution of the Pittsfield Charter Township Board of Trustees on May 26, 2009 (Res #09-45); and

WHEREAS, the purpose of the Committee was to enhance community identity by bringing attention to the rich heritage of Pittsfield Township, celebrating the diverse ethnic and cultural composition of Township residents and businesses, and promoting community arts and artists; and

WHEREAS, we have met this charge, over the past thirteen years, through various efforts and initiatives including the installation of the marigold sculpture at the Township Administration Building, gateway sign installations, historical markers, oral histories, dedication of the historical archives, sculpture exhibition, and vibrant history portal; and

WHEREAS, These efforts and initiatives have enhanced our community identity wherein Pittsfield Township now has it’s own Rotary Chapter and has earned the designation, in 2022, as being the 9^th most diverse suburb to live in the State of Michigan; and

WHEREAS, These efforts and initiatives have hard-coded and seamlessly integrated the idea of placemaking, vibrant public spaces, and socio-cultural recognition into all our work processes thereby making redundant the need for a separate and segregated approach to arts and cultures; and

WHEREAS, the Preserving Pittsfield Master Plan outlines for us the goal to continue to “leverage arts and culture to meet our equity and sustainability mandate”; and

WHEREAS, conversations at the Committee reiterate this goal while directing the Township to move in a direction of dissolving the Committee and focusing collaborative efforts on sustainable and equitable placemaking,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Pittsfield Charter Township Arts and Culture Excellence in Pittsfield Committee is hereby dissolved, effective with the date of this Resolution.
