| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND:
A resident request brought to the Township’s attention a lack of streetlights at the intersection of Ann Arbor – Saline Road and Maple Road. Staff verified the condition of the intersection at night. Staff contacted DTE’s Community Lighting Program and asked for a lighting proposal for the intersection (See attached.)
Pittsfield Township currently participates in DTE’s Community Lighting with over 1,100 light fixtures in the program. Of the 1,109 elements, 1,009 are within developments that are funded through special assessments on the private property owners. The other 100 elements are intersection/street lights in public areas that the Township pays for.
The Township received a proposal for three lighting elements, one for each of the three road approaches to the intersection. The total cost of construction for the three lights is $5,512.00, of which the Township pays up front $3,109.00. The remaining $2,403 is discounted off the price by DTE based on the future three years of revenue. DTE will design, install and maintain the lights and the Township will pay for the operating cost of the light which is estimated to be $801.00 annually. This cost would be charged to the Street Lighting – Utilities line item 101448000920
The Department of Municipal Services recommends contracting with DTE to design, install and maintain the proposed street lighting at Maple and Ann Arbor Saline per the Master Services Agreement from DTE’s Community Lighting Program as the Township continues to work toward improving safety along our primary arterial roadways.

The initial cost of the Master Service Agreement for installation is $3,109.00 and the lighting will have an estimated annual operating cost of $801.00 (Street Lighting – Utilities line item 101448000920.)

DTE will handle all aspects of the street lighting installation.
