Adopt a Resolution of commitment to develop an Electric Vehicle Master Plan outlined in the Preserving Pittsfield Master Plan, Res #22-11

At a Regular Meeting of the Township Board of Pittsfield Charter Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan, located at the Township Administration Building, 6201 W. Michigan Avenue, in said Township, on April 13, 2022 at 6:30 PM.

 Present:
 Absent: 

WHEREAS, the fossil-fueled transportation sector is now the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the nation and is a very significant contributing factor to air pollution and climate change, threatening the health of our residents and the sustenance of our planet; and

WHEREAS, the imbalance between fossil-fuel resources and worldwide demand for fuel is causing not just environmental destruction but also economic hardships due to limited supplies; and

WHEREAS, the transportation sector needs support to move toward adoption of clean energy technology, including plug-in electric vehicles (EVs), that reduce our dependence on fossil fuels to support a healthy environment and economy; and

WHEREAS, electrification of all vehicles, including cars, trucks and buses, is needed to achieve meaningful reductions in carbon emissions with the understanding that de-carbonization will be a lengthy and slow process; and 

WHEREAS, Pittsfield Charter Township is dedicated to being a leader in the use of clean energy by, among other things, promoting the use of EV’s as evidenced by our installation and support of public charging stations over the past five (5) years and our ongoing transition of municipal fleet to hybrid or zero-emission vehicles,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsfield Charter Township pledges to implement the vision outlined in the Preserving Pittsfield Master Plan (Electric Vehicle Master Plan Map) to achieve full completion by 2026.
