BACKGROUND:
Operating and maintaining public utilities requires regular investment and maintenance of infrastructure to ensure the efficient and safe operation of utility services. As costs and operating demands change, it is essential that the township's water and sewer rates be reviewed and adjusted annually. The township receives water and waste water services for customers from the Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority (YCUA).
A portion of the township also receives waste water treatment from the City of Ann Arbor. It is of utmost importance in order to ensure not only the structural integrity of the system but financial as well.
Annually, the township incurs rate adjustments from our water and sewer providers, i.e. YCUA, Ann Arbor, etc. (see attached letters), and it is imperative that these adjustments are passed through.
The proposed adjustment will have the following effect on the average water and sewer residential customers account on a monthly basis: based on the average water consumption to-date per residential customer of 18.00 units per billing cycle, the average bill will be adjusted by $6.00 per month for water and sewer combined.
See the attached chart for a comparison of our proposed rate to surrounding communities, and rates and charges schedule for revised charges.
