| | | | | | | | BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Authorize the Supervisor and Clerk to enter into an Agreement between the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Pittsfield Charter Township for the installation of 7 speed humps, pavement markings, and signs on Burnham Rd, Landin Trl, and Arcadia Dr., for a cost not to exceed $66,898.15 including contingency, subject to Township Attorney approval. |
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND:
In 2014, Pittsfield Charter Township established the Neighborhood Traffic Calming initiative to address the long-standing and widespread concerns about cut through and speeding traffic in residential neighborhoods. This initiative requires the participation and assistance of the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) since they have to conduct traffic studies, determine qualifications (including 75% approval by residents along the impacted street/road), and the design of traffic measures. Once WCRC has gone through its requisite steps and recommended approval to the Township, we bring the same for your review and approval. Each General Fund budget, since 2014, has allocated $100,000 for this initiative.
For 2021, our team has worked with WCRC to obtain approvals for installation of speed humps, as requested and petitioned by Township residents, at Burnham Road, Landin Trail, and Arcadia Drive. We have been working with residents in this neighborhood for nearly a decade to institute traffic calming measures and are gratified to finally bring this request forward. The cost for the installations, as provided by the WCRC, does not exceed the $100,000 budgeted for this initiative.
