MEMORANDUM

TO:
Pittsfield Charter Township Board of Trustees

THROUGH:
Mandy Grewal, Supervisor

FROM:
Matt Harshberger, Director of Public Safety

DATE:

August 11, 2021

SUBJECT:

Authorize the Supervisor and Clerk to sign a one-year contract extension with Washtenaw County to provide the Department of Public Safety with E- 911 and non-emergency police dispatch services, for a cost not to exceed $145,000, subject to Township Attorney approval

BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:

Authorize the Supervisor and Clerk to sign a one-year contract extension with Washtenaw County to provide the Department of Public Safety with E- 911 and non-emergency police dispatch services, for a cost not to exceed $145,000, subject to Township Attorney approval.

BACKGROUND:

Since 2018 we have entered into Agreements with Emergent Health Partners, Inc. (Huron Valley Ambulance) and Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Metro Dispatch to provide the Department of Public Safety with E- 911 and non-emergency police and fire dispatch services. We have received excellent service and have no concerns with continuing our partnerships.

The current contract with Metro Dispatch expires at the end of this year, and the Sheriff's Office has reached out to offer a one-year extension, through December 31, 2022, at the same rate (no increase) of $145,000. They are currently in the process of moving their operations to a new facility on Zeeb Road and indicate we should anticipate cost increases for the 2023/2024 budget cycles, citing staffing, technology, training, policy, supervision, and facility costs as primary elements in the funding framework for their contractual services.

The purchase of this one year contract extension/amendment will allow us to continue providing our citizens and officers with the same high quality, professional services we have benefited from for the past four years, and then adequately budget and plan for future years to follow.
