WHEREAS, Since March 15, 2020, when we first began to deal with the pandemic, Pittsfield Township’s administrative and leadership team have taken many steps and implemented multiple initiatives to provide for a seamless continuation of services to residents and businesses in a safe and responsible manner; and

WHEREAS, The COVID-19 pandemic has left one out of every four Michigander unemployed while disproportionately impacting those already on the margins; and

WHEREAS, As evidenced from our actions since March 15th, the Pittsfield Township Board of Trustees is following through on our long-standing commitment to provide additional protections for vulnerable community members by, among other things, having adopted the following: Resolution #20-17 to enhance access to affordable housing; Resolution #20-16 to support Pittsfield Township’s small businesses; Resolution #20-19 which enhanced the Utility Hardship Assistance program and provides deferment of payments for up to six-months; and

WHEREAS, With the recent mailing of the bill for rubbish and recycling services, we deem it equitable and appropriate to follow a similar pattern that provides for a six (6) month extension for Pittsfield Township residents for the payment of this bill;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Pittsfield Township Board of Trustees authorizes that all residential customers of Pittsfield Township that are serviced by Republic Services, may defer their Rubbish and Recycle payments for up to six (6) months from the date of May 27, 2020.
